A Napanee man says the death of his son could have been avoided, and he is looking to make sure something similar does not happen again.
Earlier this month, 15 year old Garrett Mills was out at a municipal park in Napanee, with his long time friend and girlfriend, when tragedy struck.
In a facebook post that has gone nationwide, father David Mills says his son was hanging off an unsecured soccer net, when the goal came down on top of him.
The Napanee District Secondary School student died that very evening, something Mills says has rocked the family to the core.
Now Mills, his wife Gwen and their three children want to make sure something good can come out of tragedy.
The post has been seen hundreds of thousands of times and shared many thousand times as well.
A portion of the post is below.
FROM DAVID MILLS: One small step to bring awareness to this cause, (and by doing so, also pay tribute to our son), is to wrap a strip of checkered duct tape (a pseudo armband of sorts) around the left post of every soccer goal we can get to. So if you see that, you know why it’s there.
