Municipal officials in Brighton are confident they won’t have to fill any more sandbags in the next few days, as water levels on Lake Ontario start to stabilize, but not decrease.
Sandbag barriers are currently protecting close to 40 shoreline homes in the town, with volunteers and firefighters working over the weekend to re-inforce barriers and construct more to protect against onshore winds and waves.
Moving forward, the town says it will continue to monitor conditions and the fire chief will work with volunteer groups to develop a roster of people who can monitor municipal pumps and keep an eye on possibly changing conditions.
Sandbags are still available at 67 Sharpe Road if needed and councillors and municipal staff are sending their thanks to the many volunteers who have helped out over the past few weeks and have been instrumental in protecting homes in the area.
