A bunch of new trees are being planted at Mary Anne Sills Park in Belleville, to replace others that were removed recently.
Four spruce trees were removed so pathways and other improvements could be made to the facility and a pair of silver maple trees were lost during last summer’s drought, so a total of 15 new trees are being planted.
A sugar maple was planted today, to mark the Canada 150 anniversary, as its leaves are the same ones as on the Canadian flag.
Two more sugar maples will be added before June 1st, along with two ginkgo trees and ten blue beech trees.
Today’s planting ceremony was attended by Mayor Taso Christopher, Councillor Garnet Thompson, the city’s Parks and Open Spaces Manager Larry Glover, OFSAA Track and Field Operations Manager Tim Larry and Track and Field Committee Member Pat Foran.
