Belleville’s first sub shop and a longtime downtown staple has closed, but there’s something new on the way.
Mr. Zed’s Subs, which opened on Front Street on September 15 1972, closed its doors over the weekend.
Peter Zamanis is the shop’s original owner and owner of the building itself, and tells Quinte News, he plans to open up an authentic Greek restaurant in the old sub shop space.
Work has already started to redevelop the unit and Zamanis says the new restaurant could be open and ready in about six weeks or so.
Zamanis says even though the sub shop has closed and preparations are underway for the new Greek food spot, the pool hall and bar next door remain open for business.
