Stirling-Rawdon council has rejected a costing from the OPP to police the community.
Stirling-Rawdon Mayor Rodney Cooney will ask the provincial police to sharpen their pencils and present options with lower costs.
Recently, the OPP calculated a cost of about $1.5 million a year, not including start-up costs.
That is $300,000 a year less than the cost of the current municipal police service, but Mayor Cooney says the OPP cost remains too high.
The mayor wonders why Stirling-Rawdon taxpayers should pay way more for policing than those in neighbouring Marmora and Lake, which is a very similar community in makeup and population.
Marmora and Lake ratepayers pay about $900,000 a year for OPP policing.
