The City is completing major upgrades to Mary-Anne Sills Park in Belleville this spring in a continued effort to keep it as a contender destination facility for provincial tournaments.
The Park upgrades will include: paving the parking lot; asphalt surfacing of the walkways adjacent to Field#1/Bruce Faulds Track; installing Wi-Fi capability for tournament use and constructing storage buildings for City owned athletic equipment.
“As a City we pride ourselves on being able to welcome athletes with their friends and families to this exceptional facility,” said Mayor Taso Christopher. “This June the Ontario OFSAA Track and Field meet will be held here, attracting an estimated 2,400 athletes, 600 coaches and approximately 5,000 spectators to our community. Then in July, we’re hosting the Junior Ultimate Frisbee Championship Tournament, featuring more than 300 athletes. These bookings are only some of the great opportunities this facility gives us to showcase Belleville in its entirety and we encourage all residents to make our visitors feel welcome.”
City Parks and Open Space Manager Larry Glover added, “While there will not be direct work on the fields or facilities that will prevent currently scheduled league games, track meets or tournaments from occurring, there will inevitably be some inconvenience as a result of the construction. Thank you for your patience as we complete these upgrades.”
