Staff at Joyceville Institution in Kingston are reporting the death of a 58 year-old inmate.
Assistant Warden Lorrie Oddie says Robert Heward died at an outside hospital yesterday.
He was serving a four year sentence for financial-related crimes including fraud, illegal distribution and unregistered trading, all under the Securities Act and had been in custody since February 22, 2017.
Heward and another man were convicted of bilking about 105 investors out of more than $6.5 million, through a scam revolving around a fake gold mining licenses in Tanzania
A cause of death wasn’t released, but Oddie says Heward’s family has been notified.
No other information was released, but the Correctional Service of Canada and the coroner are looking into the death.
