A local agency that provides the community with volunteer opportunities is celebrating a milestone anniversary this year.
Volunteer Information Quinte is turning 50.
It was 50 years ago, local resident Ruth Burrows had a vision of building a stronger community. As a result, VIQ has spent the past 50 years assisting in developing numerous agencies and organizations throughout Hastings and Prince Edward Counties.
VIQ provides volunteer recruitment and referral to over 260 agencies and completes over 1,400 volunteer referrals each year.
To celebrate the milestone, VIQ is hosting a gala Saturday April 22 at the Banquet Centre in Belleville. There will be quest speakers, special awards and dancing. Cocktails are at 5:30 and dinner is at 6. Tickets are $75.
This year also marks the 10th anniversary of VIQ’s major fundraiser – Dancing with the Stars Quinte.
The local star studded dance off features returning dancers this year, all vying for the mirror ball trophy. It is taking place at the Essroc Arena in Wellington on June 9.
