Here are the main points from today’s (Sunday’s) municipal update on the Picton/Bloomfield water emergency given by Mayor Robert Quaiff.
The boil water advisory remains in effect.
The water treatment plant remains shut down.
The hauling of water from Belleville, Tyendinaga Territory and Wellington is going well, keeping the reservoirs full for residents of Picton and Wellington, however water conservation is still requested from residents.
There is still a fuel odor noticeable in some raw water samples. Water sampling is ongoing.
The municipality has a plan to restart the water plant, and the Ministry of Environment is reviewing it.
The barge at Picton Terminals in Picton Bay was re-floated yesterday. It’s expected it will be pulled out of the bay by tugboat tomorrow (Monday)
and taken back to Toronto. Most, if not all, of the ice is out of the bay.
The Ministry of Environment is allowing commercial shipping to occur again at Picton Terminals.
Apparently, people masquerading as Prince Edward County staff are going door to door asking to collect water from sampling.
This is a scam. Mayor Quaiff advises residents to refuse entry to such people, adding that no county staff is going door to door for water samples.
