Working smoke alarms likely saved lives earlier this morning (Wednesday) after a house went up in flames in Quinte West.
The fire at 1270 County Road 40, commonly known as Wooler Road, just north of the 401, started before one o’clock this morning.
The house was fully engulfed in flames when Quinte West firefighters arrived. A man and woman and 3 dogs escaped safely. The fire was under control at 2:45.
About $275,000. damage was done. The fire started in the area of a woodstove. The cause is not considered suspicious.
Quinte West Fire Chief John Whalen says the couple had had the house up for sale for the past 2 years, and had just recently sold it.
