The Hastings County Historical Society is being recognized province-wide for its role in the creation of the new community archives in Belleville.
The Archives Association of Ontario will present the Society with its Corporate 2017 Award.
The Hastings County Historical Society initiated a search for a new community archives more than a dozen years ago, and with the help of Belleville and Hastings County the archives opened in Belleville Public Library last year.
The Society raised more than $250,000 toward equipping and furnishing the archives, while the city and county together contributed more than a million dollars to convert a portion of the library into the new facility.
Spokesman Orland French says the numbers show the usage of the archive is increasing all the time.
The award presentation will take place in Toronto on April
