Steps are being taken to obtain unemployment statistics specifically for the Bay Quinte region.
The number of people out of work in the Bay of Quinte region is nearly 2% lower than for the same period last year.
Executive Director Chris King of the Quinte Economic Development Commission says the statistics cover a vast area of Eastern Ontario and more specific numbers are needed.
King says the federal government has been asked to to help as well as local partners.
Statistics Canada shows 4.5% unemployment in the month of February, for theĀ Eastern Ontario area reaching the Renfrew area and including the Quinte region, compared to just over 6% for the same time last year.
