About 50 homes are without water in Quinte West and a boil water advisory is in effect for part of the city, as works crews try to repair a watermain break from this morning.
CAO Charlie Murphy says all residents on the municipal system, who live west of the Trent River, should be bringing their water to a rapid boil before using it for things like cooking and bathing.
Workers have isolated the area of the break and the city is also trying to get temporary water supply to the 50 affected homes.
City staff are still trying to determine the cause of the break and at that point, will have a better idea of how long the fix will take.
The Ministry of Environment and local public health officials have been contacted and anyone who has questions, or needs more information, can call Hastings Prince Edward Public Health at 613-966-5500.
Meanwhile, Prince Edward County officials have issued a precautionary boil water advisory for residents in Consecon and Carrying Place, as a result of the watermain break.
Residents in the area may experience a loss in water pressure until the situation is resolved.
We’ll have updates on-air and online throughout the afternoon.
