UPDATE: Things are slowly returning to normal. Officials hope people will be allowed back in the centre before noon.
Just after 8:00 a.m., a 4 inch gas service line was ruptured (cracked) on site.
The line breached was outside the building on the NW corner.
Union Gas is on site.
The line will be shut off & made safe.
Belleville Fire and Rescue will help ventilate the building and when the building and situation is deemed safe by BF&R and Union Gas the QSWC can then be occupied.
Due to the time necessary in order to locate the main shut off valve on the West side of the building this process could take up to 2 to 3 hours.
We are hoping for a quicker resolution – however, it is best to prepare for the longer time frame.
Staff, users and user groups, workers and visitors will be sent to alternate locations until all is clear to return.
