The group 100+ Women Who Care Quinte marked International Woman’s Day by making a generous donation to help families of children receiving medical treatment.
On Wednesday, 295 members of the women’s group gathered at the Greek Hall in Belleville and donated an estimated $16,600 to Almost Home in Kingston.
Since the 11 bedroom house opened in 1996, it’s been managed by volunteers and aims to provide a place of comfort for families whose children are being treated at Kingston area hospitals.
Charlene Quinn worked with a fundraising team to purchase the home located at 118 William Street.
She explained how many Quinte area residents turn to Almost Home as a welcoming and affordable option as they only charge $10 a night.
“Families come from all over Ontario, with the majority from Quinte,” said Quinn. “We are always full and we rely solely on donations.”
A cheque presentation is expected at a later date. An exact total will be announced soon.
