The Trenton Golden Hawks have known who they were playing for more than a week, however the Wellington Dukes just found out Saturday night.
In Cobourg Satuday, The Cougars shut out Trenton 3-0, in the final regular season game of the OJHL season. With the win Cobourg locked up 3rd in the Northeast Conference, securing a date with the Kingston Voyageurs. Cobourg had the 2nd best record, however because Markham won the North Division title, they move into the 2nd playoff position.
Coach and General Manager Jerome Dupont says the club played an average game at best. He says they did not have much to play for, since they locked up 2nd in the league days ago. Trenton now gets set to play Newmarket in the first round, with the first game in Trenton likely Friday (however nothing has been confirmed by the league).
Meantime, with Cobourg winning over Trenton, that locked Whitby into the 4th playoff seat, securing a date with the Wellington Dukes. Dukes Coach Marty Abrams says they struggled against the Fury during the regular season. He says they are a high offense, high octane style team. He says they have to respect that fact. He says they finished the season strong and everything starts against at zero come the playoffs.
The start date is likely to be Thursday or Friday (however nothing has been confirmed by the league)
