Quinte West has signed off on the purchase of a new scoreboard and the creation of a new press box for the Duncan McDonald Community Gardens.
Tuesday night, council approved buying the score clock estimated to cost between $240,000-$250,000. Council will use up to $250,000 from the City’s working fund reserve to purchase the clock. Combined the two projects are expected to cost around $500,000. The first $250,000 received in revenues from the agreement with Pepsi will be used to repay the working fund reserve.
The score clock project includes the replacement of the clock at the north end of the arena and refurbishing the second clock to ensure they are linked. The new four-sided scoreboard with high definition television screens will be capable of automatic playback for sports events such as hockey and figure skating.
John McDonald with the Trenton Golden Hawks, the rinks main tenant, says it is a big win, especially ahead of the Central Canadian Championships in May (Dudley Hewitt Cup).
There is no timeline for when it will be installed however the plan is to have it ready for when the Trenton Golden Hawks host the 2017 Dudley-Hewitt Cup set to run from May 2nd – 6th.
