École secondaire publique Marc-Garneau is at the head of the class when it comes to Quinte region secondary schools in the annual
rankings by the Fraser Institute.
Marc-Garneau in Trenton was ranked 88 out of 740 secondary schools in the province, scoring a 7.8 out of 10.
The right wing think tank ranks both secondary and elementary schools across the country every year, using standardized
testing in math and literacy offered by the various educational systems.
Among the larger school boards in the area, Bayside Secondary ranked 279 in Ontario with a 6.7 score.
Ranking third locally was St Paul Catholic in Trenton with a 6.6. In fourth place was Nicholson Catholic at 6.2.
Centennial Secondary scored a 6, as did Campbellford District High School. The Campbellford school made the Institute’s top 10
fastest improving schools in the province list.
ENSS in Brighton scored a 5.9.
Doing very poorly was Trenton High School, scoring near the bottom with a 3.3.
All of the local secondary schools, with the exception of Campbellford and Marc-Garneau, scored lower than their 5 year average.
The best school in the province was again St Michael’s Choir (Sr) of Toronto.
