The 120 volunteer firefighters in Quinte West have accepted a new three-year contract.
Christian Labour Association of Canada official Ian DeWaard says the volunteers voted 82 per cent last night in favour of the deal, which was reached in mid-December during negotiations involving the city and the C-L-A-C.
Highlights include 2.5 per cent increases in wages, an improvement to the accidental death insurance coverage, from 100-thousand to 150-thousand dollars, and an enhanced standardized training program.
The salary hike means firefighters will be paid 29-93 an hour for the first hour at a fire, up by 73 cents, and 19.96 an hour for any additional time at a fire, a 49-cent increase..
