Belleville’s mayor is pleased with the latest Canada census figures that show the city has grown over the past five years, topping the 50,000 mark.
The city grew 2.6%, below the provincial average, but Mayor Taso Christopher says it’s “good economic growth and good for the entire region.”
He pointed to 250,000 square feet of new industry in the past 3 years.
He says he’s “proud” of council’s decision to invest $20 million in the northeast feeder main for residential growth north of the Quinte Sports and Wellness Centre.
He says larger cities sometimes say there’s no growth in rural areas and small cities “and this proves that’s not true.”
Mayor Christopher says over the next five years Belleville should be, in his words, “Steady Eddy” looking to “good economic growth.”
