Belleville sits close to the top of the list of “Growth Cities” in Canada.
U-Haul Migration Trends has just released its list of migration trends in 2016, with Kamloops, British Columbia at the top and Belleville sitting in the No. 2 spot.
Belleville’s Manager of Economic Development and Strategic Initiatives Karen Poste says “This is great news.”
Kamloops has a population of 90,000. Belleville sits at 49,454.
Trenton is ranked as No. 8.
Growth cities are calculated by the net gain of “arriving one-way U-Haul trucks” over departing U-Haul trucks for a calendar year, out of 1.7 million rental transactions annually.
Nineteen of the top 25 cities are in Ontario.
Halifax, Nova Scotia is the only one outside Ontario and British Columbia to make the list.
The company says that while migration trends do not correlate directly to population or economic growth, U-Haul growth data is an effective gauge of how well cities are attracting and maintaining residents.
