Update @ 2 p.m.: A Belleville church is accepting donations for a family whose house was destroyed by fire on Tuesday.
The blaze on Bronk Road left the family of eight, including six children homeless and with nothing, so St. Michael’s Church is stepping in to help.
Donations can be dropped off at the St. Michael’s Rectory on Church Street, during regular business hours, if you’d like to help out.
Fire gutted a house on Thurlow ward’s Bronk Road yesterday (Tuesday) afternoon. The only resident at the house at the time, a male youth, called
911 at around 2:25 and when firefighters arrived the garage roof had already collapsed and flames were spreading quickly through the rest of
the attached house.
A family of 8 lived in the house. No one was injured, but 3 cats are missing. Belleville Fire Prevention Officer Dave MacMullen estimates the damage at
$450,000 dollars, including the value of the 20 acres of land. The property was insured.
The cause remains under investigation.
Belleville fire halls 3 and 4 responded, and water tanker support was provided by the Tyendinaga Township and Mohawk departments.
