Quinte Health Care has approved the donation of a portion of hospital-owned land for the Belleville/Quinte West Community Health Centre.
During Tuesday night’s board meeting, the site on Catherine Street was donated, stretching more than 5,000 square metres. It is adjacent to Trenton Memorial Hospital.
Officials say there are some provisions to be met first, which include the removal of the easement on the northern portion of land. Some of the land is used currently for staff parking. Thirty percent of the land must remain green space.
A task force is overlooking the readiness of the land for construction. They are also developing a preliminary site plan. The land has been assessed at $680,000, however the severed land would be donated to the Community Health Centre by QHC.
There are a number of services proposed for the health centre, including military support, community care, rehabilitation, addiction and mental health services and more.
Also during the meeting, the board endorsed a feasibility study for the CHC. This will include a study to look at services which would be included in the CHC. Pricing, siting options, and discussions with the municipality and emergency services would also be included.
