Brighton Council will get to work on the 2017 budget process tonight, as long as the weather cooperates.
CAO Bill Watson tells Quinte News, staff will be presenting a draft budget with a tax rate increase in the 2% range, but councillors will still have to sift through it and decide what expenses to go ahead with and which ones to cut.
But Watson says he doesn’t expect a whole lot of slashing to happen.
But he adds, that as far as a timeline for finalizing the budget, it all depends on how the meetings go.
As far as major capital projects go, Watson says the next one is working on the town’s wastewater treatment lagoon, which will be done either this year or next, once an environmental assessment is completed.
