In the early hours on the 31st of December 2016 Belleville Police responded to the northwest end of the city in response to a break and enter in progress. An alert neighbour contacted police after witnessing a male party break into a residence through the basement window. The male suspect was then seen leaving the residence with a bicycle. A 17 year old was apprehended by police shortly thereafter and taken into custody. The youth has been charged with Break and Enter and Breach of Probation.
On 31 December 2016, Belleville Police responded to a second Break and Enter in progress after a home owner from the Bridge Street East and Ann Street area awoke to a male in his kitchen. The suspect was scared off by the home owner and ran from the area on foot without confrontation. Police conducted both foot patrol and mobile patrol throughout the area and surrounding yards, however, were unable to locate the suspect.
