Northumberland OPP have tallied up the numbers from a rash of boxing day crashes and say there was a total of 52 incidents across the roads in that county, but thankfully no major injuries were reported.
Traffic investigators say freezing rain and slippery roads played a large part in most of the crashes and the majority of them happened on the 401, between Cobourg and Brighton.
The highway was closed for most of the day after a tractor trailer spilled its load and its fuel and was re-opened around 6:30 p.m.
A Hastings-Quinte EMS vehicle was also sideswiped, while parked on the highway with its lights on, as well as a similar incident involving a tow-truck on County Road 30, near the ramp to the 401.
OPP say many of the incidents are still being investigated, since officers had to deal with so many calls for service that day and had to “prioritize their efforts”.
