Shortly after 4:00 a.m. on Christmas Eve, members of the Peterborough County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were called to the McCrackens Landing area of Stoney Lake. OPP members and emergency crews arrived on scene to a residential fire on Hamilton Drive North.
No survivors were found inside the home by emergency service workers; located at the scene were two people and two family pets, all deceased.
Two family members remain unaccounted for, who are also believed to have tragically surrendered to the fire. The search for the two missing family members is continuing at the scene.
The identities of the victims have not been confirmed.
Members of the Office of the Fire Marshal and Emergency Management (OFMEM), Central Region Forensic Identification Services (FIS), Peterborough County OPP Detachment and Crime Unit are on scene and continue to investigate the origin of the fire.
