Hastings County council will be asked to increase its funding to Habitat for Humanity and cut its funding to its own public home ownership assistance.
At its meeting Wednesday, the Hastings-Quinte social services committee debated four options presented by staff on how it could make the increase to Habitat for Humanity.
The county is in a five year agreement to give Habitat $50,000 a year.
Earlier this year, Habitat had asked that that contribution be increased to $150,000 by 2018, since it plans to increase its home building to 13 by 202o.
The county gives its own public home ownership down payment assistance program $180,000 a year.

Earlier this year Habitat had asked for an increase but Gatward says “it’s a balancing act.”
The committee decided to recommend that county council increase the Habitat funding to $100,000 a year for the next three years cutting the public home ownership to $130,000 over the same period.
