Quinte West has voted against embracing electoral reform opting to keep the status quo for voters in the upcoming 2018 municipal election.
Monday night council decided against the ranked ballot system.
In a lengthy report by city clerk Kevin Heath it stated the change would increase the price of running the election by $17,000.
Mayor Jim Harrison told Quinte News there was no need for change as the current first-past-the-post system works well.
At last week’s Belleville council meeting, the City also decided to keep the voting system the same.
Under Bill 181, the Municipal Elections Modernization Act, if municipalities do decide to change, a bylaw will have to be passed May 1, 2017.
In other business, plans for Hilden Homes to build a subdivision featuring 89 homes along with some townhouses, in Frankford received a green light from council Monday night.
The development is planned for the south side of Huffman Road, fronting on Mitchell Drive.
