It’s going to be a drastic change but it will make a big difference all around.
That’s the sentiment from Belleville’s Deputy Police Chief as the BPS moves forward with a complete re-brand of its front line service vehicles.
Ron Gignac tells Quinte News starting next year, new vehicles added to the fleet will be black, with red and blue reflective stripes and Belleville Police written on the side in white.
He adds the new black cars will be swapped in, over the next four years, as the older white ones age out of the fleet and will have no added budget implications.
The new vehicles will be primarily Dodge Charger sports cars or Chevrolet Tahoe SUVs, as they tend to be the most comfortable for officers, who spend hours driving them around.
Gignac says it’s also important to distinguish Belleville Police vehicles from the many other police cars that are driving around the area, from other jurisdictions.
A small group that attended the meeting at the Parkdale Community Centre seemed receptive to the changes, which Deputy Gignac says was the goal of the evening.
