Kara Thompson’s desire to learn about another culture and help others is close to becoming a reality.
The Grade 11 student told Quinte West council she is nearing her $3,000 fundraising goal and will soon be flying to Ecuador with the “Me to We” program.
The program has flown over 15,000 students to Amazon, India, Ecuador, Nicaragua, Kenya and Tanzania enabling them to assist with advocacy missions.
Thompson said she will be helping to build a school for children or a clean water well system.
She said it was through a close friend that the ‘aha moment’ presented itself.
Thompson told Quinte News she aspires to be a photo journalist and hopes to help others by showing the different perspectives of the world. She adds she will definitely be bringing her camera.
When she returns home she said she will be bringing back an action plan where she hopes to not only inspire others but continue to advocate for women’s issues.
