A fire at the Trenton Walmart has closed the store for the day and possibly longer.
Around 3:00 a.m., fire alarms and sprinklers in the back of the store went off and staff evacuated.
Quinte West firefighters responded and found flames in a storage room near the shoe department.
The fire was contained to the storage room, and was out before 4:00 a.m., however there is smoke and water damage throughout the store.
Fire Chief John Whalen says the blaze was only about 25 feet in length, but it contaminated the entire store, causing hundreds of thousands of dollars in damage.
The Ontario Fire Marshall has been called to the scene.
