Careless smoking is to blame for a fire that began in the living room of a second floor apartment in Trenton Monday afternoon.
Crews arrived at 14 Crown Street around 1:20 p.m. to find the building full of smoke.
Quinte West Fire Chief John Whalen said the occupants had left and working smoke alarms thankfully alerted other residents to the fire. He added a neighbour helped put the fire out and no one was injured.
Whalen said there was lots of smoke damage and it’s estimated around $10,000.
