The Quinte West OPP would like to remind everyone to take extra care on our area roads. As the clocks fall back statistics show that collisions on roads increase. Pedestrians walking around at dusk are nearly three times more likely to be struck by cars in the days following the end of daylight savings time than just before the time change. Pedestrians should be mindful when crossing roads to ensure they can cross safely, also wear bright and reflective clothes.
Motorists can prepare by ensuring that their vehicles are prepared for the early darkness by checking to see that all lights on their vehicles are in working order. Prepare a winter emergency kit for your automobile. They should include items such as: warm clothes, blanket, flashlight and batteries, water and non-perishable snacks, shovel, flares, reflective hazard triangle, jumper cables, extra clothes.
WINTER TIRES
Being mindful of the fact that mishaps occur in the days following time changes is sometimes enough to make people stay more focused on the task at hand and avoid the potential mishaps.
