UPDATE @ 3:45 p.m.: OPP say eastbound lanes have been re-opened, but only one westbound lane is getting through.
UPDATE @ 2:30 p.m.: OPP say one lane of the highway is now open in each direction.
UPDATE @ 2:00 p.m.: Belleville Fire Chief Mark MacDonald is advising drivers to stay off the 401, as other emergency personnel continue to clean up the crash. Reports to Quinte News say the driver of the transport was able to walk to an ambulance under his own power and was taken to the Lennox and Addington Hospital for treatment.
A section of highway 401 is closed in both directions, between Shannonville and Marysville Roads, following a serious crash early this afternoon.
OPP have confirmed the closure, after a single-vehicle accident, around 12:30 p.m. today.
Reports to Quinte News say a transport truck flipped the median and is blocking the westbound lanes.
There are also reports of fluid leaking from the vehicle, but no word on any injuries.
Emergency response personnel from a number of local fire departments are on scene and we’ll update the situation as more details are available.
