A local group working to bring Syrian refugees to Quinte says they are still patiently waiting for the family to complete its final security clearance.
As we reported in October, the group Syria Connection voiced concerns about being frustrated with delays.
Spokeswoman Melissa Wakeling tells Quinte News they have now had to give up the apartment they had secured for the family of three.
Wakeling says their group remains in contact with MP Neil Ellis and Immigration Canada on a regular basis for updates.
Meanwhile, Quinte Immigration Services Executive Director Orlando Ferro told Quinte News that as of September, 68 new families have arrived in the region just 10 short of a 78 year end target.
He said an update on October numbers is expected soon.
Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada promised to bring in 25,000 government-assisted refugees this year.
Previously Immigration Canada told Quinte News that processing of both government-supported and privately sponsored refugees continues and they continue to arrive, with more scheduled to come in the weeks and months ahead.
