A program aimed at tackling the high rate of tooth decay among daycare and kindergarten children has been launched in Northumberland County.
The Kawartha Pine Ridge health unit has begun offering a free fluoride varnish program in Northumberland classrooms.
Statistics show that tooth decay can affect up to 40% of kindergarten students screened by the health unit.
Spokesperson Debbie Brisbin blames it, in part, on what they eat.
Brisbin says fluoride varnish can make a difference.
Fluoride clinics for the young students will be held during November.

– In Baltimore at Baltimore Public School (9320 Burwash Rd.) on Wednesday, November 9 (Noon to 1:15 p.m.)
– In Port Hope at Beatrice Strong Public School (90 Rose Glen Rd.) on Tuesday, November 22 (9:30 -10:50 a.m.)
