Northumberland County says more than 24 million plastic water bottles have been diverted from county landfills, thanks to new sorting equipment, that’s been in action for a year now.
The County says the new automated system has also made things easier for workers and created a dedicated revenue stream, which generates at least $100,000 per year, from the sale of recyclable materials.
The new equipment, which was approved in 2014 and installed in 2015, is just part of an ongoing redevelopment of the Northumberland County Material Recovery Facility, which continues as recycling processes change year-over-year.
