A project to improve infrastructure north of the 401 is going to go over budget.
Thursday morning at the Belleville Mayor’s Implementation Team meeting, staff said they will need to pencil in another $1.75 million to complete water, sewer and road work for Maitland Drive and Mineral Road between Farnham Road and Highway 62.
Councillor Jack Miller questioned the need for two sidewalks on Maitland, thinking it could save some dollars.
Mayor Taso Christopher was upset with the increase and says the main reason for the jump is the time it takes to get an environmental assessment done.
Staff is going to come back with proposals for cost saving measures and a breakdown on what expenses tax payers are on the hook for, and what will be paid for by development charges.
The numbers will go to the capital budget discussions October 25th.
$10,275,000 was budgeted for the project under Build Belleville.
The road reconstructions will include the extension of water and waste water, along with an improved road surface and sidewalks. Maitland Drive will also see a centre left turn lane and street lighting.
