After a tumultuous period, which saw a number of people step down from the Quinte Humane Society Board, Executive Director Frank Rockett says there’s some good news to report.
In a press release sent out Friday, the Society announced it is adding Belleville City Councillor Kelly McCaw and President and CEO of Rumble Energy Kelly Rumble to its Board of Directors.
Executive Director Frank Rockett told Quinte News it’s a positive turn around after five senior members resigned recently. (Chair Laurie Palmer, one of two Vice-Chairs, Rose Anne Smith, Secretary Cindy Howard, Treasurer Bill Oliphant, and Cathy Childerhose).
In a short letter to media Thursday, Laurie Palmer wrote the five resigned for good reasons but with heavy hearts.
They will not disclose what the problems were “because they don’t want to jeopardize a positive outcome for a future new shelter”.
Meanwhile, sources close to the situation told Quinte News some board members wanted to close the shelter for an unknown period of time after a few cats became ill recently, but the board voted that idea down.
Sources also say there are concerns about over spending.
