She may have some big shoes to fill but 14-year-old Holli Claxton proved she was up for the task of being Prince Edward County’s mayor for a day.
On Thursday, the grade 9 student at Prince Edward Collegiate Institute was given a first hand look at what it’s like to be mayor Robert Quaiff.
His worship took her on a tour of the new joint emergency services facility, Wellings in Picton, the Edward Building, the Lake Street Garage and Picton’s new Water and Wastewater Facility.
She said her favourite part was touring the new fire hall.
Claxton won the opportunity through a draw at the Youth Future Forum held in March 2016. The event was aimed at brainstorming ideas to solve the challenges associated with living in the County.
She said she would like to see some lighting and trash bins leading up the Heights Hill in Picton.
Mayor Quaiff said they are great ideas and he has committed to looking into solutions.
As for taking up a career in municipal politics, Claxton says that is a possibility. Right now she has her eye on becoming a youth counsellor or a surgeon.
