Five officers on the board of directors for the Quinte Humane Society have resigned their positions on the board.
They are Chair Laurie Palmer, one of two Vice-Chairs, Rose Anne Smith, Secretary Cindy Howard, Treasurer Bill Oliphant, and Cathy Childerhose have resigned.
In a short letter to media, Laurie Palmer says the five resigned for good reasons but with heavy hearts.
They will not disclose what the problems were “because they don’t want to jeopardize a positive outcome for a future new shelter”.
Meanwhile, sources close to the situation told Quinte News some board members wanted to close the shelter for an unknown period of time after a few cats became ill recently, but the board voted that idea down.
Sources also say there are concerns about over spending.
Quinte Humane Society Executive Director Frank Rockett says the resignations are part of a transition period and all is well is at the shelter.
We are awaiting comment from the new Chair of the board, Pat Culhane.
