The Belleville man charged with assault with a weapon following a recent stabbing that left a man in critical condition will remain behind bars at least until Wednesday.
Early Friday morning, Belleville police responded to the area of Bridge Street West and Coleman Street for reports of a fight involving between 5 and 10 men. A 30-year-old man remains in critical condition in Kingston General Hospital after reportedly being stabbed in the brawl. Adam Thomas was charged Sunday evening in connection with the incident.
On Monday, the 27-year-old Thomas appeared briefly by video before Justice of the Peace Christopher Peltzer at the Quinte Consolidated Courthouse.
The man of average build and height with short dark brown hair, a mustache and goatee appeared calm, stared straight ahead, only answering with “yes” when spoken to. He appeared wearing a black Toronto Raptors t-shirt and had a small but deep looking cut on the bridge of his nose.
It was decided that he will return for bail on Wednesday afternoon.
Court also heard that on a completely separate matter Thomas is to appear to be sentenced on a failing to comply with a probation order charge Wednesday morning.
