Belleville could be in line for some of the $1.49 billion worth of transit funding announced by the federal government.
The transit funding to be distributed among Ontario cities is for track upgrades, new buses, shelters and upgrades to stations.
Belleville’s Transit Chair Councillor Jack Miller says it’s not yet clear how much the city is eligible for.
Miller says updating the downtown bus terminal and building a proposed northern terminal are two possible projects, but there’s another that might be number one.
He says this has been in the works for a long time.
The federal funding can be used for half the cost of eligible projects.
The funding is retroactive to April 1 to cover any costs cities and provinces have incurred since then.
About $500 million of the projects being announced will be in Toronto, with Ottawa next on the list at $156 million.
Waterloo, Barrie and Sudbury will receive about $30.6 million combined for 20 projects.
