Hastings-Quinte Social Services is going public in its bid to sell the 47 single housing units it owns.
So far Social Services has only been able to sell four of the single houses to present social service tenants.
The joint Social Services committee has decided to put the houses out for public purchase.
Executive director Steve Gatward explains how the system works.
Meanwhile the nine-year plan is to build fifty multi-units to replace the single houses, some already built.
More money for the homeless
Hastings-Quinte Social Services has received additional funding to provide services for the homeless in Belleville.
The federal government recently announced more funding for homeless services and Hastings-Quinte gets $59,000 to add to the $11,000 it is already receiving. Executive director Steve Gatward says a request for proposals will be issued for non-profit and community groups.
Answering a question from Quinte West councillor Karen Sharpe, Gatward told the social services committee the money has to be used in Belleville.
