It’s been a big week for area seniors, with both upper levels of government making major financial commitments.
After a provincial commitment Tuesday, to renovate about 300 long term care facilities across the province, MP Neil Ellis announced Wednesday major contributions towards seniors programs, for three local organizations, through the New Horizons for Seniors program.
$22,000 is going to the Frankford Legion, $25,000 to The Garden Place near Frankford and just over $11,000 to the Trent Community Correctional Committee.
He says supporting seniors is a top priority for the Liberal Government.
The Frankford Legion’s Jane Haire says, while the money is intended for seniors programs, the renovations it’s being used for will help anyone who visits the Legion.

The Garden Place will use its funds to build a tea house gazebo, a well being area and a raised garden, while the TCC will use its share to offer yoga and art therapy for seniors, as well as horse interaction programs for seniors with dementia and Alzheimer’s.
