The cause of a natural gas line break that forced the evacuation of downtown has been deemed accidental.
Just before 5 p.m. Monday evening, construction workers ruptured a gas line at Front and Campbell Streets leading to the full evacuation of the area from Bridge Street, north to Station Street and Coleman Street, east to Church Street.
Belleville Deputy Fire Chief Bruce Greatrix.
Greatrix says most residents returned back home last night and in the core it is back to business as usual.
He says for those who aren’t home, Union Gas has left a notice to contact them.
