The matriarch of the Bata Shoe company hopes for more public comment before moving ahead with a plan for more housing in Batawa.
Quinte West’s Planning Committee was set to decide on a rezoning of vacant land near the former Bata shoe plant for a 41 house development Thursday, but the matter was pulled from the agenda.
Sonja Bata has decided to host a public meeting soon. looking for residents’ comments on the plans before proceeding through the city’s planning process.
The old shoe factory is currently being reconstructed to hold commercial and institutional facilities, as well as residential condominiums.
