It’s dubbed the toughest two minutes in sports and it’s happening all weekend at the Quinte Sports and Wellness Centre in Belleville.
The Belleville Fire Department is hosting the 2016 Southern Ontario Regional Firefit Championship on Saturday and Sunday.
Nearly 150 firefighters from across Ontario with at least one coming from Newfoundland will take part in the competition based on fire fighting tasks commonly performed in emergency situations.
Local teams including Belleville, Quinte West, Stone Mills and Napanee will also be competing.
Belleville Deputy Fire Chief Ray Ellis says there are five basic evolutions that participants will encounter at most fires.
They will have to carry a life size human mannequin weighing 175 pounds to the finish line.
Also, 10 corporate teams will be participating Friday night raising funds for the annual Belleville firefighter’s Toy Drive.
Ellis says a heated rivalry is warming up between the teachers and students of Quinte Secondary School who will kick things off at 6 p.m.
