Quinte West Councillors have been updated on Ontario’s new election rules which come into effect in 2018.
Council recieved a report for information last night, from City Clerk Kevin Heath, that outlined some of the changes in areas like implementing ranked ballots, changes to campaign funding rules, third party advertising, the election calendar and more.
Quinte West Mayor Jim Harrison tells Quinte News, he’s not exactly thrilled with what’s been proposed.
Harrison says a further report will come back , well before the 2018 election, where council will decide if it wants to implement any of the optional changes locally.
The changes were approved at Queen’s Park in early June and you can find out more about them by clicking here.
